Morningside BARC (Build A Run Coalition) is a community-based organization dedicated to dogs and their owners in the Morningside Park area of Manhattan, NYC. In serving and uniting communities in Central Harlem, Morningside Heights and Manhattan Valley, our goal is to use our shared love of our dogs to build gathering places, to plan events and to otherwise strengthen ties among the enormously diverse users of the park.
Morningside BARC was founded in June. 2001 by a coalition of residents from Central Harlem and Morningside Heights who wanted a place to let their dogs play on a daily basis. Before M-BARC’s efforts began, there were no legal dog runs in Harlem, nor were there sanctioned off-leash courtesy hours. Nowhere to meet with the dogs, nowhere to meet with each other. Now, thanks to the efforts documented on this website, we are a thriving community.
Morningside BARC is a partner group of Friends of Morningside Park, as well as a community service organization maintaining ties with local city agencies.
